LAO GAN MA

Lao Gan Ma (Tao Hua Bi) brand chili oil is one of the traditional regional delicacies in Guizhou.

For the past few decades, it has been meticulously crafted using traditional techniques, known for its elegant and delicate flavor with a prominent spicy kick and a lingering aftertaste. It’s a household essential and a fine gift for family and friends.

In 1984, Ms. Tao Hua Bi introduced a unique frying technique, creating a distinctive condiment that delighted customers and became widely popular.

After mass production began in 1996, it quickly became a sales hotspot nationwide. Lao Gan Ma is the largest producer of chili products in China, mainly producing over 20 product series, including flavored fermented black beans, chicken oil chili, spicy pickled vegetables, and fermented tofu. On most foreign shopping websites, Lao Gan Ma is translated as “Lao GanMa,” but it’s also translated as “The godmother.” In July 2012, the U.S. luxury e-commerce platform Gilt featured Lao Gan Ma as an esteemed condiment, available for a limited-time price of $11.95 for two bottles.

In the United States, “Lao Gan Ma” can certainly be considered an “imported luxury product” from China.

On August 6, 2019, around 10 a.m., a fire broke out on the fourth floor of the production workshop of “Lao Gan Ma” located in Nanguang District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. Local Guiyang firefighters were involved in handling the incident.

In December 2019, Lao Gan Ma was selected as one of the “Exemplary 100 Brands” in the 2019 China Brand Power Summit.

Guizhou Nanguang Lao Gan Ma Flavor Food Co., Ltd. is located at No. 138 Donglongbao Jianlongdong Road, Nanguang District, Guiyang City, established in 1996. The company currently has a four-story multi-functional office building and four production bases, covering an area of over 20,000 square meters, with more than 2,000 employees and a total of 246 personnel in management and technical positions.

Lao Gan Ma Company has a daily production capacity of 1.2 million bottles of chili products, mainly producing more than 20 product series, including flavored fermented black beans, chili oil, fresh minced beef, water fermented black beans, and fermented tofu. It is currently the largest producer and seller of chili products in China.

The company continuously standardizes various internal management aspects, improves the construction of various facilities, and continuously increases its technological transformation efforts. In addition to adding production capacity, it also carries out technical transformation of existing production lines. The comprehensive production and operation capabilities of the enterprise have been greatly improved. In terms of management, a modern management system has been introduced and effectively implemented. The company’s competitive ability and management level continue to improve.

In terms of quality control of finished products and raw materials, the company has established a quality control center with relatively complete technical means. It has improved and strengthened the self-inspection and self-testing capabilities of raw materials and finished products, ensuring that each batch of products is strictly produced in accordance with the operating procedures and sent for testing by authoritative institutions in the province before leaving the factory.

Over the past few years, due to the establishment of the enterprise’s quality management system and the effective implementation of quality management work, the various indicators of products have met China’s national health and quality standards every year. The pass rate of products has always been at the top of the same industry. It has been awarded the titles of “Advanced Enterprises in Quality and Efficiency in China’s Food Industry,” “Inspection-Qualified Enterprise,” “Advanced Unit in Quality Management of China’s Township Enterprises,” and “Key Leading Enterprise in China’s National Agricultural Industrialization Operation.” It has successfully passed the ISO9001:2000 quality system, ISO14001:1996 environmental management system, and HACCP certification. The product “chili oil” has obtained the “Green Food” certification, and the “oil chili” series of products has obtained the title of “China Famous Brand.” The company, as the main drafting unit, released China’s first national standard for “oil chili.”
