Beijing TIANTAN Chinese-style Furniture Co., Ltd. is the representative of “Jing-style” mahogany furniture and is a century-old brand renowned in Beijing. According to “Beijing Time-honored Brands” written by Hou Shixiang, its history can be traced back to 1862 (during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty).
In the 1950s, on the basis of merging all the hardwood furniture production factories in Beijing and integrating the achievements of various schools of Ming and Qing furniture in the north, the unique palace furniture characteristics represented by the furniture made by the Qing Palace Manufacturing Office, namely “Jing-style”, were formed. It became the leading force of “Jing-style” mahogany furniture and is known as one of the three major schools of Chinese hardwood furniture along with “Su-style” and “Guang-style”, and is known as the “official kiln” among furniture.
The materials selected for TIANTAN’s products are mostly high-quality woods such as hard-textured Indian small-leaf red sandalwood, Laotian red rosewood, and Burmese rosewood. With the mission of inheriting Jing-style craftsmanship, it adopts structures such as “full mortise and tenon, continuous woodworking of one piece of wood”, and is elaborately carved by craftsmen, and endows the products with beautiful meanings such as “fortune, longevity, nobility, and auspiciousness”. The surface of the furniture is treated with a unique hot waxing process to reveal the natural texture of the wood.
In addition, TIANTAN also has a special restoration center for ancient and old furniture, with the qualification of national first-level cultural relic restoration and undertaking the task of restoring ancient and old furniture for national museums, the Forbidden City and other units.
TIANTAN’s products are deeply loved by celebrities and collectors from all walks of life. Many products are included in the books “Appreciation of Ming-style Furniture” and “Research on Ming-style Furniture” written by Mr. Wang Shixiang, a master of mahogany. Against the backdrop of the rise and development of Chinese culture, TIANTAN’s inheritance and persistence of “Jing-style” craftsmanship has also been widely recognized by all sectors of society.
TIANTAN follows the spirit of heaven and earth, takes classical culture as the essence and the quality of mahogany as the image, creating a living space with orderly poetry and etiquette, and truly comprehending the timeless and ever-new beauty passed down through the ages.
