The Xinghai Piano Group Co., Ltd. is located in the Xinghai Industrial Park, an integrated opto-mechanical and electronic industrial base in the Zhongguancun Science Park, Tongzhou District, Beijing. Established in 1994 by restructuring the Beijing Xinghai Musical Instrument Joint Company, it is a Chinese-Western musical instrument manufacturing enterprise. This major national enterprise in China originated from the Beijing Piano Factory established in 1949. Under its umbrella are 6 branch factories, 3 industrial subsidiaries, 2 commercial subsidiaries, 5 joint-venture subsidiaries, 1 property management subsidiary, a piano training school, and a musical instrument research institute. The company covers an area of 300,000 square meters, employing 2,800 individuals. Nearly a thousand of these employees are professionals in technology, management, or are senior workers, making up 35% of the workforce.
The company has appointed Mr. Luther Zell, a master of piano manufacturing from Germany, as its consultant. Their main products include upright pianos, grand pianos, Western wind instruments, traditional Chinese instruments, percussion instruments, electronic instruments, and related accessories. The Xinghai Piano Group Co., Ltd. first passed the ISO9002 international quality certification in 1998, updated to the ISO9001:2000 quality management system in 2004, achieved the ISO14001 environmental certification in 2001, was awarded the “China May Day Labor Award” in 2002, honored as a “Civilized Unit of China” in 2005, and in 2006, not only received the “China Top Brand” title but also achieved the “National Quality Inspection-free” qualification. That same year, the Xinghai trademark was recognized as a “Famous Chinese Trademark”, propelling the company into the forefront of Chinese industrial enterprises. In 2011, Xinghai was designated a “Chinese Time-honored Brand” by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
The company has won the International Quality Award five times, continuously received the title of “Quality and Efficiency Enterprise” from China’s Light Industry System, was recognized as a “Powerhouse Enterprise in the Musical Instrument Industry” by the China Musical Instrument Association, and for ten consecutive years was honored as a “Model Civilized Unit of the Capital” and for thirteen years as a “Contract-honoring and Credit-worthy Enterprise”.
Over the past decade, the enterprise has seen rapid development, with key economic indicators growing swiftly. Xinghai pianos now produce over 40,000 units annually, ranking second in China and 49th among the world’s top 225 musical instrument manufacturers. Export volume accounts for a quarter of the total production, with products shipped to over 60 countries and regions. Both domestically and internationally, Xinghai products hold a strong reputation and high credibility.
In 2005, with the support of the Beijing Municipal Committee, Municipal Government, and a major investment company, the Xinghai Piano Group Co., Ltd. invested over 300 million yuan to construct the Xinghai Industrial Park in the integrated opto-mechanical and electronic industrial base in the Zhongguancun Science Park, Tongzhou District, marking the rise of modern musical instrument manufacturing facilities.
Reforms and opening up brought vitality and vigor to the enterprise like a warm spring breeze. The company’s transition to a group-based system, successful technological transformations, extensive international interactions, and technological collaborations have narrowed the gap between Xinghai instruments and world-renowned brands.
During the “13th Five-Year Plan”, in line with Beijing’s overall requirements for “changing the capital’s city function positioning and promoting coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei”, Xinghai Group has shouldered its social responsibilities as a Beijing state-owned enterprise, facilitating rapid transformation. Presently, Xinghai is actively pushing forward its various businesses in line with the strategic vision of “Three Platforms” (a new production organization platform, a shared digital music technology platform, and a franchised education and training platform) and “Four Segments” (Xinghai Park asset management, traditional manufacturing, digital music, and music education). Xinghai is transitioning from traditional manufacturing to a more comprehensive, group-based development. Xinghai has always remembered the original intention of the people’s artists: “To make good musical instruments for the world’s people.” Today, Xinghai continues to work tirelessly with the aspiration of crafting high-quality instruments for more Chinese people.
