The origins of RIO can be traced back to the mid-1990s. The founder of RIO, who had been focused on the wine industry for many years, encountered a famous pre-mixed cocktail in Singapore. However, at that time, most internationally renowned pre-mixed cocktails were based on a single alcohol component and required only a few types of fruit juice to create a good taste. He was puzzled by this and wanted to make a change and innovate.

The founder of RIO invited internationally renowned mixologists from around the world to join this new venture. Mixologists from cities like Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro gathered together. After eight years of careful research and development, they successfully formulated the original recipe for fruit-based pre-mixed cocktails, breaking free from the constraints of a single alcohol base. They used high-quality spirits from around the world, including Cognac, vodka, rum, and more, combined with various fruit juices to create a richer and more layered taste. This bold experiment led to the birth of a new category – RIO pre-mixed cocktails, which officially launched in 2003.

In early 2016, RIO introduced two new pre-mixed cocktail series, RIO 5-degree Original and RIO 8-degree Strong & Refreshing, to further meet the needs of consumers of different age groups. Both series were based on vodka and blended with citrus fruit juices.

It is believed that in the near future, RIO Rui’ao pre-mixed cocktails will continue to diversify their combinations of different fruit juices and base spirits to cater to various age groups and taste preferences while serving various occasions.

The name RIO is derived from a casual conversation between RIO’s founder and his chief mixologist, Gustave, who is of Italian-Brazilian descent.

On the eve of the product launch, the brand name remained undecided. Chief contributor Gustave jokingly suggested naming the brand after himself, and while it was meant in jest, this proposal sparked inspiration in the founder. Why not name the brand after Gustave’s hometown: RIO? Perhaps this was one of the most “whimsical” brand namings in history.

Inspired by the exuberant carnival spirit of Rio de Janeiro, which breaks down barriers of class and background, the cultural mix and match trend of running together towards the future perfectly complemented the RIO cocktail’s combination of various base spirits and fruit juices.

A Variety of Flavors: RIO Rui’ao pre-mixed cocktails have successfully introduced eight bottled flavors and six canned flavors. Depending on consumers’ different taste preferences, RIO consistently creates refreshing, mellow, and classically flavored options, hoping that everyone can find their favorite.

Global Sourcing: Genuine and high-quality base spirits are the key to extraordinary taste. RIO’s base spirits include Cognac from France, premium vodka from Russia, and refreshing rum from Puerto Rico and Cuba, among others.

Trend in Consumption: In the previous century, the first pre-mixed cocktail was born in the UK and created a million-selling miracle within six months, rapidly spreading to every corner of the world in just a few years. Today, the pre-mixed cocktail market in China is also being swept up by this fashion trend. Over the years, RIO Rui’ao cocktails have frequently appeared in popular domestic and international variety shows, dramas, and films like “He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo,” “Doctor Yi Xiang Ren,” “Run, Brothers,” and “Day Day Up,” establishing a trendy, popular, and relaxed image among consumers. This has led to a perception that “fashionable people are all drinking RIO.” Celebrities frequently seen with RIO in hand have gradually recognized its fashion influence, making consumers willing to emulate their idols by enjoying the most popular celebrity drinks, bringing this consumption trend into their daily lives. Today, RIO Rui’ao cocktails have become a trendy beverage cherished by young people worldwide, and “have a RIO and make a friend” has become a carefree and easy way of life. Whether in bars or at parties, wherever young people gather, you will undoubtedly find RIO Rui’ao cocktails being enjoyed.
