MOUTAI
茅台 MOUTAI originated in 1951, and its flagship product, Guizhou MOUTAI liquor, has a long and profound history with a deep cultural significance. It features a clear and transparent color, prominent soy sauce aroma, rich and mellow fragrance, delicate and elegant taste, soft and smooth on the palate, refreshing and sweet aftertaste, and a full-bodied texture. It is an exemplary representative of China’s sauce-flavor Baijiu and a distinctive geographical indication product. In 2001, the brewing techniques of MOUTAI liquor were listed as intangible cultural heritage.
Guizhou MOUTAI Liquor Co., Ltd. was jointly initiated by eight companies, including China Guizhou MOUTAI Distillery Co., Ltd. Guizhou MOUTAI Distillery Technical Development Company, Guizhou Provincial Light Industry Collective Industrial Federation, Shenzhen Tsinghua University Research Institute, China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, Beijing Sugar, Tobacco and Alcohol Corporation, Jiangsu Provincial Sugar, Tobacco and Alcohol Corporation, and Shanghai Jieqiang Tobacco Sugar and Alcohol (Group) Co., Ltd. The establishment of the company was approved by the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government through the document “Qianfu Hanzi (1999) No. 291.”
The company flag embodies both symbolic and color meanings. Symbolically, the three curved lines represent organic MOUTAI, technological MOUTAI, and cultural MOUTAI, while the central arc represents the continuous flow of the Chishui River, symbolizing the enterprise’s source and its ever-advancing progress. In terms of colors, yellow symbolizes identity and status, representing MOUTAI’s unique culture, history, quality, status, and the integration value of “cultural MOUTAI.” Green represents the crystallization of the enterprise’s “Green Era,” producing “Green MOUTAI” and “Organic MOUTAI.” Silver-grey symbolizes the integration of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, reflecting the continuous exploration, research, development, and implementation of the “technological MOUTAI” strategy.
