In 1978, following a joint inspection by five central ministries and commissions, land in the Sanggan River basin near 115° east longitude in Hebei Province, China, was selected as the location for China’s first wine research base, giving birth to Great Wall Wine.
Centered around the 40th parallel north grape growing zone, Great Wall has five major wine production areas: the Shacheng Huai Zhuo Basin area, the Helan Mountain eastern foothill area in Ningxia, the Jieshi Mountain area in Qinhuangdao, the Penglai coast area, and the Xinjiang area. It has established a group of Chinese wineries represented by the GreatWall Sanggan Winery, GreatWall Huaxia Winery, and Great Wall Tianfu Winery. Additionally, it has completed acquisitions of well-known wineries in Chile and France, expanding its presence overseas.
For decades, GreatWall has provided wine for state banquets at the Great Hall of the People, adhering to the brand concept of “For Great Events, We Drink GreatWall.”
