Hengshun, founded in 1840, is a vinegar production enterprise with a history spanning over a century and a relatively high level of modernization. Its unique “Hengshun solid-state layered fermentation technique” is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. Hengshun offers a range of products, including colored vinegar, white vinegar, cooking wine, sauces, soy sauce, sesame oil, and pickled vegetables.
Jiangsu Hengshun Vinegar Industry Co., Ltd. traces its origins back to the Qing Dynasty period of the 1840s. The company underwent a transformation into a joint-stock company in August 1999 and was officially renamed. In February 2001, it successfully went public on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The name “Hengshun” is derived from the Buddhist scripture “Avatamsaka Sutra,” symbolizing the eternal harmony and alignment with the benevolent nature of all beings. In 1840, Zhu Zhaohuai from Dantu established “Zhu Hengshun Vinegar Factory,” marking the beginning of the “Century of Hengshun.”
Over the span of more than 170 years, the “Hengshun people” have consistently taken it upon themselves to benefit society, striving for progress and self-improvement. They have transformed a traditional soy sauce and vinegar workshop into one of China’s largest and most modern vinegar production enterprises. The group’s total assets have reached 4 billion yuan, with annual sales exceeding 2 billion yuan, of which the main business contributes 1.2 billion yuan.
Today, “Century of Hengshun” encompasses seven major product categories: colored vinegar, white vinegar, cooking wine, sauces, soy sauce, sesame oil, and pickled vegetables. These products are sold in over 50 countries and supplied to more than 160 embassies and consulates of China worldwide.
The historical mission of “Century of Hengshun” is to “inherit the century-old classics and build an international brand.” To achieve this, generations of forward-thinking “Hengshun people” have upheld traditional craftsmanship while continuously pursuing innovation and reform. Their noble vision is to become a leader in China’s vinegar industry. Building on the foundations of industrial production, capital operation, and brand development in the vinegar industry, “Hengshun people” are expanding into the health industry to meet the diverse needs of consumers for delicious, nutritious, and healthy products. Looking to the future, “Hengshun people” will continue to promote the corporate culture of “Hengshun for society, Hengshun for consumers, Hengshun for investors, Hengshun for distributors, and Hengshun for employees.”
During China’s “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, “Hengshun people” will strive to double the scale of their main business, aiming for sales revenue of over 2 billion yuan, double economic benefits with tax revenue exceeding 350 million yuan, double the market value of the listed company, and achieve wage and welfare levels for employees on par with similar companies in Zhenjiang. They will pursue cross-sectoral development through five key approaches: industrial transformation and upgrading, technological transformation and upgrading, product transformation and upgrading, mechanism transformation and upgrading, and business model transformation and upgrading.
The determined “Hengshun people” have a dream: to strengthen and optimize the seasoning product sector with vinegar at its core and vigorously cultivate two new growth points, namely Hengshun nutrition and health products and Hengshun healthy beverages. Through relentless efforts, they aim to lay a solid foundation for the realization of the grand goal of “Hengshun reaching a hundred billion yuan.” They are dedicated to making a renewed and greater contribution to the development of traditional Chinese industries and the revitalization of national industries.
