The herbal tea produced by the JDB Group is based on traditional recipes, made with premium herbal ingredients, and adheres to traditional steaming and boiling processes. It is blended using modern technology to extract the essence of herbs, and includes chrysanthemum, licorice, mesona, and honeysuckle, which have properties to prevent internal heat. JDB Group is a large professional beverage production and sales company based in Hong Kong. Its products include canned, bottled, and boxed “JDB” and “Kunlun Mountain Snow Mountain Mineral Water.” The group launched the red canned herbal tea in 1996 and the gold canned herbal tea in April 2015.
On July 6, 2012, both Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group and JDB filed lawsuits claiming the rights to the unique packaging and decoration of the well-known “Red Can Wanglaoji Herbal Tea,” accusing each other of infringement. On August 16, 2017, the final ruling in the “Red Can Dispute” declared that both parties would share the rights. In January 2018, Wanglaoji lost its infringement lawsuit against JDB, and its claims for 300 million yuan in compensation were rejected.
In 1996, with authorization from Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group, JDB was permitted to use the “Red Can Herbal Tea” trademark and obtained the operating rights for the red can and red can herbal tea, while Guangzhou Pharmaceutical retained the operating rights for green box herbal tea. The contract expired in 2010. In 1999, JDB established a production base in Chang’an Town, Dongguan, Guangdong Province, as a foreign-invested enterprise. To support its strategy for the Chinese market, the group set up production bases in Dongguan (Guangdong), Shaoxing (Zhejiang), Shishi (Fujian), Beijing, Qinghai, Hangzhou, and Wuhan, and established multiple raw material production bases. Red can herbal tea is popular not only in China but also in Southeast Asia and Western countries.
In May 2012, JDB launched its own brand, JDB Herbal Tea. In 2015, JDB upgraded its strategy and introduced the gold can, marking the beginning of the golden era of herbal tea. JDB has always been passionate about creating a world-class beverage brand for China, inheriting the concept of traditional Chinese health preservation and benevolence culture, and striving towards the “JDB Chinese Dream” with relentless effort and innovation.
On June 15, 2018, JDB held a press conference in Beijing to announce the return of the red can JDB. On October 9, 2018, according to a report by Hong Kong Wanda News Agency, Zhonghong Holdings announced that it had signed a “Termination Agreement” with JDB Group and Yin Yi Capital, agreeing to terminate all forms of cooperation, with no further rights or obligations, and no mutual liability for breach of contract. On April 17, 2019, JDB (China) and the Administrative Committee of the Dongjiang Free Trade Port Zone in Tianjin Binhai New Area held a signing ceremony, marking the establishment of its China operations headquarters project, JDB (Tianjin) Beverage Co., Ltd., in Dongjiang, with an initial registered capital of 100 million yuan.
