Founded in 1983, formerly known as China National Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, it is one of the largest global suppliers of refined oil and petrochemical products, as well as an oil and gas producer. It is a state-established super-large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, also known as Sinopec Group, traces its origins back to the establishment of China National Petroleum and Chemical Corporation in July 1983. In July 1998, in accordance with the central Party’s deployment of implementing strategic restructuring in the petroleum and petrochemical industry, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation was restructured and established based on the original China National Petroleum and Chemical Corporation. In August 2018, it was restructured into a company under the corporate system and named China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation.
The company is a super-large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group, with a registered capital of 326.5 billion RMB. The Chairman of the Board is the legal representative, and the headquarters is located in Beijing. The company exercises the rights of asset benefit, major decision-making, and the selection of managers for its wholly-owned, controlling, and participating enterprises’ related state-owned assets, operates, manages, and supervises state-owned assets in accordance with the law, and assumes corresponding responsibilities for value preservation and appreciation.
The company’s main business scope includes: industrial investment and investment management; exploration, development, storage, transportation (including pipeline transportation), sales, and comprehensive utilization of petroleum and natural gas; coal production, sales, storage, and transportation; petroleum refining; storage, transportation, wholesale, and retail of refined oil; production, sales, storage, and transportation of petrochemicals, natural gas chemicals, coal chemicals, and other chemical products; production, sales, storage, and transportation of new energy products; new energy vehicle charging and swapping businesses, and related services; exploration, design, consulting, construction, and installation of petroleum and petrochemical projects; maintenance and repair of petroleum and petrochemical equipment; research, development, manufacturing, and sales of mechanical and electrical equipment; production and sales of electricity, steam, water, and industrial gases; research, development, application, and consulting services for technology, electronic commerce, information, and alternative energy products; self-operated and agency import and export of relevant goods and technologies; foreign engineering contracting, bidding procurement, and labor export; international warehousing and logistics business, and more.
